The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

imageRobot vacuums remove pet hair, lint, and dust from floors before they settle. They can also avoid stairs and other obstacles like furniture that can tip.

The majority of robotic vacuums require maintenance, like emptying (and occasionally rinsing) the bin and wiping sensors and cameras. Also, they have to be connected to an electrical source. Many come with smartphone applications to schedule, adjust settings and more.

Roomba 980 from iRobot

The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest in the series of top-of-the-line robot vacuum cleaners that are a staple of every modern household. This model is equipped with a HEPA-filter that will aid those suffering from allergies. In addition it also has a strong battery that can clean for up to two hours, and it automatically returns to its dock when it is full.

smart vacuum cleaner mapping is another feature that assists in identifying areas of your home that require attention and provides a path for cleaning around them. This technology is very efficient in navigating toys left on the floor, or furniture legs sticking out from underneath things. Roomba also has a sensor that snaps Roomba to its real-world location if it starts to wander away from its initial location.

iRobot has also added a new set of rollers underneath the Roomba's bottom that do not have bristles, and thus tend to resist tangles better than earlier models. They're also a bit taller than previous rollers and can better fit under low couches and beds and are designed to let this model move more easily across a variety of floor kinds.

The Roomba 980 differs from other models of high-end quality by its new dirt detection feature, which makes use of cameras to detect dirt embedded. This is a nice improvement over the previous version, that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage technique to bounce around the room and clean at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance in our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. It scored highly on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a decent job of picking up pet hair, but it struggled with very thick and long pet fur that was clumped together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the best automatic vacuum cleaner performing robots we've reviewed despite the slight limitations. It's also not as expensive as other top-of-the-line models. It still has a lot of features we'd expect to see in a top-of-the-line model however it lacks all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration that are found in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get up and running immediately. After taking off the yellow bin insert and pull tab from its undercarriage you simply plug it into a wall socket or its Home Base docking stations, hit the "Clean button" and let it do its job. It will return to its dock when it is running out of battery or becomes full of trash. There are also indicator best automatic vacuum cleaner lights on top that show when its bin is empty, or when it needs to recharge, or when it loses its Wi-Fi.
