A robot vacuum is a great tool for maintaining the cleanliness of your home. It will remove pet hair, dust and other surface debris before it becomes a bigger problem.

imageCertain robots can connect to smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a environment that is hands-free. Look for models that can be recharged and continue cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is an excellent option for a wide range of households. It comes with a fantastic navigation system that incorporates GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with many features and controls that are accessible through the app. It comes with a useful feature that lets you create Cleaning zones in areas that require extra attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas you don't want it to be. Like all Roomba devices, it is updated with new software updates that make it more efficient over time.

It's expensive however, it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has evaluated. It has a powerful battery that can sweep the entire house in less than two hours. It can also switch between mopping and vacuuming at the touch of the button. It will automatically empty the dust bin above its charging station, unlike other self emptying robots which require you to empty the bin after each run.

It comes with a variety of other features that make it a good option for most homes, including intelligent obstacle avoidance that utilizes both a camera and processor-powered intelligents to identify obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests it was the most effective at avoiding objects such as power cables. However, it isn't as reliable at detecting pet waste and other dangers.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While Anker-owned Eufy has made its name in the field of low-cost robot vacuums, it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features that can compete with more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with this device is its laser navigation. It takes less time to build an accurate map of your home. It can also store multiple maps. This is perfect for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It is able to effortlessly sling debris under the side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin. Its tyres are also very adept at hugging corners and edges, even though they're circular. It's not the best cat litter picker, though as our tests show it is able to remove around 90% of the fur from hard floors.

The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. While this is a good option for loose spills however, you aren't able to limit the amount of water it consumes, which will limit its effectiveness for more serious stains. However, it does an admirable job of removing pet hair, with a higher speed of pickup than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, gorgeous design and great navigation. It has some oddities in its operation, which prevent it from being ranked as the best robot mop and vacuum combo smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technology which uses LIDAR to map a room, and a pair 3D scanning cameras for detecting and avoiding obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room has been mapped and assigned, small robot Vacuum you can designate virtual no-go areas and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also begin an automatic clean or manually change the cleaning mode, watch live feeds from the onboard cameras and more from the main screen.

The sensors of the RX2 work well, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. And its sweeping and suction power are top-of-the-line, picking up surface litter from carpets of medium pile and dust on floors with no floor. But it's not the most agile robot vacuum for dog hair on the market. It's not the best climber and has issues with transition strips made of steel.

Many people purchase a robot vacuum for the hands-off convenience of setting a schedule in an app and not thinking about it for weeks at one time. It's crucial that a robot is capable of the task, so our ZDNet staff has tested and reviewed some of the most popular models to help you select the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robot looks like your typical robot but it's a step up in terms of performance and features. Its smart mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses them to navigate around obstacles and avoid them. It can even detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real time. The combination of sensors with a bump detector and an infrared sensor that keeps the vacuum away from stairs makes it one of our most agile vacuums.

It was able to walk over the thick shag carpets and did not get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). Its navigation capabilities were impressive. Its composite score for carpet and bare flooring was higher than the competition, and it picked up 98.5% of pet hair from our lab test samples.

Its controls are a bit more basic than those of the competition; there's an oblong cleaning button at the top. You can launch it via the app or via voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for weekly or daily cleans, create areas that are not allowed to be cleaned, and check its cleaning history. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks attractive in your home. Its rear dustbin is easily accessible for emptying, and taking out the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a great option for those looking for a small robot vacuum vacuum that's simple and simple at a cost that is low. It lacks some of the more advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, found in higher-end models but if you're not looking for these functions, you can save cost with this model.

This robot is simple to set up and use. It does not require a smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with the remote control that allows you to choose between various modes and adjust the suction level. You can also set up a manual schedule to assign the robotvac to an cleaning schedule.

In our tests, the 11S was very effective at removing pet hair and dirt from hard floors as well as in carpets with low pile. Its slim profile made it possible to get under low-hanging furniture and other items that larger robots are unable to reach. It was also able to easily pass over doorway thresholds and move from one floor type to another.

Like other robots, the 11S will take in some objects, such as cords drawstrings for hoodies, and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you prevent this from happening by keeping these items off the ground and using a cord organizer whenever possible. It also suggests that you periodically clean the dustbin, replace the filters and wash or change the brushes as needed.

6. iRobot Roomba 980

The Roomba 980 is iRobot's most popular robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's the most powerful robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigating features and Small Robot vacuum environmental mapping are something to behold. It has more advanced automation than its competitors, such as the ability to create virtual boundary markers using its mobile app. Although its app isn't the most responsive and the 980 may spin a bit when crossing cables, it's still a highly efficient robot vacuum.
