After walking to her local Boots, the expert filmed herself holding a bottle of Listerine mouthwash as an example she would personally avoid.

She explained: 'Avoid alcohol in all mouthwashes, it's way too harsh.'

If used too often, mouthwashes which contain alcohol can begin to dissolve your teeth's enamel.

Next up, the dentist urged people not to buy their own DIY dental kits - which often contain scalpels to remove plaque at home.

Using a Boots own-brand kit as an example, Surina said: 'The instruments here contain really sharp edges, which make it easy to traumatise your gums and chip your teeth. Thirdly, Surina advised against using 'colour correcting' serums - as she says they're quite often not worth the money.

The expert continued: 'This [product] works by a very clever colour illusion but doesn't actually whiten your teeth.

'So don't believe the hype guys!'

After this, Surina turned her attention to home whitening kits and urged viewers to check the ingredients before buying them.
